lyrics
Nights trapped in jackets
And days were hanging by a thread
While the lowlives kept the lights on
And a hard earned living off the grid
The syndicate ill-fated,
Still swingin ‘till the end,
Never got the chance to reach their comeuppance
Or reminisce the golden age of velvet
In the twilight of their career
I first of their existence on a lark
Through the crack of a manhole cover
As I stumbled off the curb outside my haunt
Where city veins flow rich to the heart
And pump their spoils through shafts in the dark
Scrape the dying ember from the ash into the fray
Scrape the dying ember from the ash into the fray
Where I can see through
That’s where I can see through
Scrape the dying ember off the path into the fray
Where I can see through
For a life I can see through
Sure fire escape
Designed like any other off the take, and down the drink
We reached the rally point at midnight on the nail
But the moment felt amiss
Teeth-click turned to rattle and shattered off the tongue
Dripping wet from rains that yet hadn’t let up for a month
Stood a sodden sack of crooks
At odds on tenterhooks
Helpless in the tunnels as they slithered up above
Waste you wicked vermin down the shaft to interchange
Waste you wicked vermin down the shaft to interchange
Where I can see you
That’s where I can see you
A cold blue chill billowed through the tunnel walls
And as the torrent took the spill-way
There roar of our impending fate began to fall
Rats scattered through cracks
Pipes swelled to seal the trap
Now we’re a long hard lost cause
Still haunting the crooked mazes underground
Our reign unmeant to behold
My god, what an absolutely incredible Suite. I'll admit, I've struggled to get into Pharoah Sanders due to diving headfirst into some of his most challenging catalogue and that never worked. This is the perfect place to restart. Floating Points is new for me and I can honestly say I've never heard synthesizer music this lush and organic before. the LSO is just perfect. This is one of those albums that any serious music fan needs in their life. The perfect swan song for the great Pharaoh! 5/5 ClassyMusicSnob
Terry Venemous is releasing new music every 3 weeks this year. His latest EP is sumptuous art pop with a wry sense of detachment.
