about
Opal Onyx are a Brooklyn-based band who released their debut album “Delta Sands” on Tin Angel Records to wide acclaim. Their side is the seedy underbelly of a concrete jungle to Zelienople’s night amongst the leaves. “Bullets” opens with ambient guitar on top of a crackly beat as Sarah Nowicki’s vocal hovers over the horrors below. New member Heidi Sabertooth makes her recording bow on the second song “Lucid”, adding an array of electronic flourishes as the tension in Side B’s first act spills over in waves of synthesizer and Matthew Robinson’s roaring cello. The world that Opal Onyx makes is one usually experienced in a brief and fleeting encounter – after 14 minutes in this maelstrom, the experience is wholly memorable.

The earlier releases were all strong, but I love the bit of "crunch" added to the guitars on this one. I would never have described their music as great to listen to while driving on a sunny day... until this one arrived. Excellent album. Matthew Campbell
