A Book Of Songs For Anne Marie

by Baby Dee

D Vest thumbnail
D Vest At one hand such a fragile, delicate, and trembling vocal, yet powerful, unpolished, and insisting when it needs to be. Every song is a little lyrical fairy tale of life. Favorite track: As Morning Holds A Star.

Overture 02:08
2.
Love's small song Love's small song Though my love is far away I shall sing and wake the day Love's small song Love's small song Though my love is ages gone I shall sing love's small song I shall sing and wake the dawn
3.
I'll make a book of songs for my Anne Marie With every good beginning and every grateful end And every grateful end to close upon a world of good My arms to close upon a world of good As nature's best pretense as her sweetest lie That branch's furthest bud to reach a winter sky To reach a winter sky and close upon a world of good My arms to close upon a world of good A garden gate of arms for a fertile field I'll find a man to hold you as a fountain sealed As a fountain sealed and close upon a world of good My arms to close upon a world of good As sunlight comes to sorry stone So come, my love And take this sorriest stone of all To find a grateful place That warm and sunlit wall My arms to close upon a world of good My arms to close upon a world of good
4.
Lilacs 03:41
With words that reach from star to stone And lies as true as nature's own My friends and I will sing a sea of merciful days For the Lilacs have come That bloom the whole year round Friends remembered and lovers found And lovers found Arise, my love, and come away For the winter's ruinous work is done Arise my love and come away For the earth has heard the robin's song And welcomed every word And welcomed every word My friends and I will sing a sea of merciful days For the lilacs have come That bloom the whole year round Friends remembered and lovers found And lovers found So good Beyond all wishing That even as we slept Small voices, sweet to sing, Did sing a promise kept My friends and I will sing a sea of merciful days For the lilacs have come That bloom the whole year round Friends remembered and lovers found And lovers found
5.
Unheard of hope As hands made big to give Press small fingers round a coin And say "Here. Take this. It's for you. Mind now, don't lose it." I'll take your heart The one you thought was yours And give you one to call your own And say, "Here. Take this. It's for you. Mind now, don't lose it." A god's remorse For a ruined world Small voices made sweet to sing And say, "Here. Take this. It's for you. Mind now, don't lose it." The cutters come And a tree must fall With a great forgiving rush of wind And say, "Here. Take this. It's for you. Mind now, don't lose it."
6.
I'm black but comely As a night shot with stars I'm black but comely As a night shot with stars And I'm not a tree of sticks No, I'm not a tree of sticks But a forest of hemlocks and beeches Of waters dark as wine from boundless reaches Black but comely As a night shot with stars I tried to find you And I missed you by a mile The soldiers found me And they took me for a whore If I can't have you I can love you just the same I'm black but comely As the smoke of home I'm black but comely As the smoke of home And I'm not a tree of sticks No. I'm not a tree of sticks But a forest of hemlocks and beeches Of waters dark as wine from boundless reaches Black but comely As a night shot with stars As a night shot with stars
7.
And Anne Marie does love to sing And Anne Marie does love the day And I can't stop my heart And I can't take my eyes away And come the time of gentle light And morning star does visit night And come the time of gentle light And evening star does visit night One gentle light does have two names And Anne Marie does love to sing And Anne Marie does love the day And I can't stop my heart And I can't take my eyes away And I did lose you I did lose you And where will I go now And where will I go And where will I go now? So write my song with a triad bright as a belt of stars Orion-like to run before the hounds Orion-like, compelled by love to run where love abounds To run where love abounds To run where love abounds And write my song on the five black lines of a bluejay's wing And fly in winter's face a man to sing Orion-like, by love compelled to run where love abounds To run where love abounds To run where love abounds And in the throats of gelded boys who sing themselves to sleep Let voices waken oceans deep Orion-like, by love compelled to run where love abounds To run where love abounds To run where love abounds So patient wait the valley's bloom And grateful sing the summer's end With rose of sharon overgrowing Overgrowing Overgrowing
8.
As stars that shine unseen To call the day their home And make no thieving visit there But live where songs come from With open-throated arms To hold you singing God's own song Who writes a song must love to hear it sung And gentle hope has made my song a reckless one Can't hobbled words be made to rhyme? With thoughtful reach of heart to take from killing time A song so small That endless night sweet evening's kiss recall? And didn't kind and learned hands once write on broken bits of clay? Those shards That from a world of bliss did fall a world away? And writing make a homely scroll to wear That ruin's children, fathered by mistake, Might find their good beginning there and sing A song so small That endless night sweet evenings kiss recall? For Anne Marie I'd be a day For Anne Marie I'd be a day I'd be a day For Anne Marie I'd be a day
9.
Here's truth Your songs would make an angel choke Here's justice A robin eaten by a worm Your very likeness lies in that rotten joke And mercy is in the hiding of it So set me as a seal on your heart As a seal on your arm For love is stronger than death More jealous than the tomb The embers of a fire, come from God That all the water in the world could not consume So set me as a seal on your heart As a seal on your arm
10.
There must be something wrong For love's not choking on her song There must be some mistake When robins wake a winter day There must be some mistake Your smile The horizon of my heart To stammer out a day Like a baby first time talking Here I am It's me I'm here And I'll hold you As morning holds a star If morning never held a star before And I'll hold you In grateful arms that sing No more sad songs No more No more night skies I've got a sunrise An unquiet heart A quieting hand has stilled An empty cradle filled No more sad songs No more sad songs, no more No more night skies, I've got a sunrise A sunrise A sunrise I've got a sunrise

Morning Fire 02:41
I am a house Where dawn comes cold And you, my love My morning fire And you, my love You are my morning fire Awake north wind And come ye south From cold horizons Rise and run Awake north wind And come ye south As March to find An early Spring Where we await ourselves I know we'll touch And I'll find you, my love My morning fire And you, my love You are my morning fire I am a house Where dawn comes cold And you, my love My morning fire And You, my love You are my morning fire

about

I am less the writer of these songs than I am their unfit mother. But for the efforts of four people these children of mine would never have escaped the cramped and stinking hovel of my mind.

Pepper Mcgowan first made me realize that songs have to be sung. David Tibet was a patient and forgiving surrogate father to them. Richard Guy was their great benefactor. And Maxim Moston became their beloved and caring uncle to send them out into the world well groomed and in their Sunday best.
